What does one do at The Other Place ... ? Simply relax ... And enjoy the quiet, the birds, the sunrises and sunsets, the always changing views and explore the outdoors. Feel free to explore the entire 550 acres. There are several dirt roads and cow paths running through the property. Explore them on foot or bring your mountain bike. Pack a lunch and wander down to Anderson Creek. In the Anderson Valley there are more than a dozen wineries. Or, if you prefer a visit to the coast, Elk and Mendocino are only about an hour away. And a latte is only 5 minutes, in Boonville at Glad's, Otto's or the Boont Berry.
What's the closest town ... ? Boonville.
Is there anywhere to eat ... ? In Boonville there are several restaurants. The Boonville Hotel is a terrific dinner or lunch spot. The Anderson Valley Brewing Company is located here. For a beer tasting or pub meal. Lauren's is another good choice for dinner and sometimes music and entertainment. For a hearty breakfast, the Horn of Zeese excels as does the Redwood Drive-In. The Redwood Drive-in can also cure your hamburger and fries fix. (Lauren's, too.) For a light lunch, Glad's or the Boont Berry or Horn of Zeese. And the Boont Berry can also fill your latte quota. The Redwood Drive-in is the place for your hamburger/fry and shake fix. Menus are in all cottages.
Where do we buy groceries ... ? We recommend you bring the bulk of your supplies with you. There is a grocery Boonville and Philo (5 miles west of Boonville) has Lemon's Market with its own butcher and fresh fish. For your organic needs, The Boont Berry has produce and a deli. In the summer there are several produce stands and local farmer's market on Saturdays.
Is there a place to rent videos ... ? Yes, either at Pearl's Antique Shop or the Anderson Valley Market.
Do I bring my own linens ... ? No, everything including a fully stocked kitchen is in the cottage except: 1) charcoal for the Weber grill. A chimney starter is provided. 2) If you're traveling with your canine companion, a sheet to protect the down comforters.
Can my dog be off leash ... ? Of course, that's why we're referred to as a doggie nirvana. Each cottage is fenced so that your dog can be free, but contained within several acres. When hiking the 550 acres, they are welcome to be off leash. Currently, there are a few cows on the upper property They generally don't create a problem with the dogs, though you may feel more comfortable leashing them when you encounter the bovine residents.
How do I check in ...? The keys are always in the cottages. Simply go to your cottage. Check in time is after 4:00 p.m. Check out time is 11:00 a.m.
Do you accept credit cards ... ? No.
Do you have weekly rates ... ? Yes, weekly rates include seven nights for a six night charge.
How far in advance do we need to make reservations ... ? Weekends, of course book first and can be filled two or three months out. Weekdays, two or three weeks. Because many reservations are made so far in advance, there are often changes so don't hesitate to call last minute.
Are there any Sheep Dog Trials in the area ... ? There are three annual trials, all in Boonville. Wool grower's Bar-b-que, (July 23, 2000), Johnson Memorial Trial and the Mendocino County Fair.
What is your Cancellation Policy...? All cancellations or changes are subject to a $20 service fee. A 21 day notice is required for a deposit refund or credit. Any cancellation received less than the 21 days, you will be responsible if it is not rebooked. We maintain a wait list and always work to fill any canceled time so that your deposit can be credited to your next visit.
Do you have a cleaning deposit and pet fee...? There is no cleaning deposit. Because of the extra hair and dirt that our canine companions bring in it does take longer to clean each cottage. Many of our guests leave a little something for our cleaning person.
